In tribute to Clara Campoamor, one of the most important figures in the history of women’s rights in Spain, the association is promoting a women’s rugby league for amateur teams. We want more women to play rugby, in an accessible competition that keeps the cost of taking part as low as possible.
What the Clara Campoamor league is
A women’s league that works the same way as the senior league: a set calendar, clear rules and transparent standings. It is designed for amateur teams that want to play regularly without the structure of a federation competition.
What it offers teams
- Low costs. Registration and participation costs are kept as low as possible, so that no team is left out for financial reasons.
- Visibility. Results, match reports and players have their place on the website and in the league news.
- An organised competition. Calendar, rules and points system known from the start.
- More rugby. Regular matches so that players can grow and women’s rugby has continuity.
Who Clara Campoamor was
A lawyer, writer and member of the Spanish Constituent Parliament of 1931, she championed women’s right to vote, which was recognised in the Constitution that year. Her name is a reminder that equality is also played out in sport.
